ZIMBABWE’S TALENTED ARTISTS RESPOND TO WINKY-D’S “REPLY” By Raynald Ngwarati M
Winky D’s “Reply” released last year by the great artiste, is arguably the best banger for 2020 crossing into 2021 beating “Porovhoka” by arch rival Jah Prayzah on last Christmas and New Year’s playlists. The hit song proved to be a force to reckon with as just weeks after release it claimed second spot on the ZBC Top 50 a remarkable achievement considering that the song was produced weeks earlier before the video count down.
The banger has attracted re-makes from various artists, including Redcliff’s DJ Themba Remember (click link to open https://youtu.be/5CBaXgL1SwY ), and 02 MUSIC producer Tony Vic ( follow this link to open the song https://youtu.be/MvozQfK6DPk ) who have created the “Amapiano” version of the hit song. All this without doubt just reflects that the song by “The Gaffa” is dominating the playlists on the streets. The response to the release is just phenomenal, though of late there has been false rumors of the artist perishing in a road crash. The latest acquisition to the remakes of the hit song “Reply” is the parody by Noxxa Clay Knockout and Ephenia who have once again shown their prowess and creativity in the music circles. The talented pair made shockwaves in the entertainment scene with parody’s on hit songs “Ijipita”, “Mugarden”, “Jerusalema”, “Hello Mwari”, “John Vuli Gate” to mention only a few. Their creativity and use of trivial issues on their sound and use of comedy is unique only to them and it is a pity that they have not yet received the recognition they deserve in Zimbabwe.
Noxxa Clay is a talented producer/ song writer/ singer together with Ephenia his wife. The pair have surely revolutionarised art in Zimbabwe breaking the norms, bringing to the scene something different they call “Parody”. The parody’s have been welcomed by the fans locally, but the two remain underrated in the scene, though they have proven that they are the best at what they do, that is entertainment.
This particular “Reply” parody tackles a situation where the husband was supposed to bring meat home, to break a streak of eating vegetables (according to previous parodies), unfortunately for the husband he could not fulfill the promised. He delays showing up hiding in the corn field, whilst the wife is sending him texts waiting expectantly for a change of meal, which may be related with by some families during these lockdown days. The parody posted two weeks ago has 1.8K views on Youtube currently
The couple have done an exceptional work in the entertainment scene, and it remains to be seen if they will get rewarded for their efforts and get the recognition they deserve. The talented couple needs support and without doubt they will go for. We continue to urge you Zimbabweans to support local content, let us appreciate our local talent so that the world can also appreciate us.
