Trevor Tendai Tasiyana better known in the music circles as Young Axe aka Axe on the beat is a music producer from Dzivarasekwa, Harare. Straight outer A5 Records Young Axe is also a very talented rapper and a Beast when it comes to making beats. Lifestyle Magazine had a talk with the fast rising youngster about his music carrier and this is what he had to say:
When did you start doing music?
I started doing music at age of 12, and at school i used to do free styles during free periods i mean i just loved doing music. At first i thought this was just one of those things that will come and pass but my friends were the ones who believed that i am so talented.
Can you tell us more about A5
A lot of people have been asking the same question “What is A5?” A5 is a clique that is made up of great rappers and singers namely Teryk, The Xaint, Stately, Dj Scntraz, Dee track, Russian, Walle, Boy Wonder, Calvin Kaynez, Dj Legacy and the most special one Icey Briwtts the one and only female rapper in the clique. “Team A5 we are the music”. We also have our own Record Label “A5 Records” that is where most of the tracks are produced.
As a producer, do you focus on Hip Hop only?
At first i only thought of doing hip hop, but someone told me that as a music producer you must also focus on other genres like Zim dancehall, Afro Pop and Sungura of which this was the greatest advice so since then I have been learning and improving my skills.
Which are some of the Artist you have worked with so far?
So far i have worked with Schingy (Team Bhoo) i produced several beats for him including the hit track called Mapoto and recently I produced the beat for Frank Castle on his latest Album. I have also worked with Dozae a.k.a Mr Bhawa Rules on a couple of tracks namely Emmo feat Nina Grande, Ndodziridza and Ndipe Rudo featuring Smokiey and Blade. I have worked with a lot more artist including Elder Deep, Teryk and The Xaint.
How has been your journey in the music industry so far?
At first i was never recognized in the game up until i started working with known rappers like Schingy (Team Bhoo). My name started growing and i established connections with a lot of rappers and music producers.
Who would you want to work with locally and Internationally?
Locally i would like to work with Gt beats, Karma, Mc Chita, Munetsi, Sanni Makalima, Trevor Dongo, Dj Speedster and internationally Cassper Nyovest, Davido, Nasty C, Future and Dj Drummer.
What have you been up to recently?
Well recently I dropped a few singles which are doing well in the hip hop basement namely Ghetto which featured a lot of talented rappers like Terel Layne, Trinnie Beats and Jay C just to mention a few I also released Dope Money Pablo, Came up and Vakandisona. Im so busy working on 4 e.ps namely Grateful, Trap life, Avatar Mixtape Vol 2 and 3.
Also recently i just got signed to Rocks Media with Boss Myre so I would like to make a public announcement that a nigga is about to drop more hits and videos this year.
How do you see the Zim Hip Hop industry? Is it growing or just fading out as some are saying.
Well i believe there’s always time for everything and Zim Hip Hop is on the rise. I see the industry getting big i mean real big, very soon Zim hip hop will be blowing up the streets.
Where do you see yourself in the next 1 year?
In the next 1 year i see myself as one of the most successful music producer that ever lived.
Any last words to upcoming artist and to someone who wants to venture in the music industry?
Rule no 1 just be you and rap from your heart.
Rule no 2 respect, grind and pray nothing is impossible.
Rule no 3 these are the only rules and the keys to become a real artist.
