Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?

Amos 3:3 NIV

Who is in your circle? Who are your friends? A popular saying says “Show me your friends and I will show you your character.” Who downloads into your spirit? Who influences you? Don’t expect to be an eagle if you play with chickens. Don’t expect a clean name if you wrestle with pigs.

David and Johnathan were friends that had God as their common denominator. “Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, for we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘The Lord is witness between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants forever.’ ” Then David left, and Jonathan went back to the town.”

1 Samuel 20:42 (NIV)

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

Luke 1:41-45 (NIV).

Elizabeth knew that Mary was carrying the Messiah within her but she did not feel anything but joy and reverence for her friend. Who is in your team? Do they uplift or put you down? Some alliances will lead to your destruction. You need to pray for revelation to see who is spirit filled in your circle. “Later, Jehoshaphat king of Judah made an alliance with Ahaziah king of Israel, whose ways were wicked. He agreed with him to construct a fleet of trading ships. After these were built at Ezion Geber, Eliezer son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, “Because you have made an alliance with Ahaziah, the Lord will destroy what you have made.” The ships were wrecked and were not able to set sail to trade.”              2 Chronicles 20:35-37 (NIV)

Have people of influence in your contacts. Have people of authority in your life. If you want to achieve greatness you have to associate with greatness. Over the years I have been privileged to have great women and men of God on my speed dial. When I want to tap into the anointing I approach those at a higher level of spiritual authority than I am. How can you expect your business to flourish yet your friends are not business people? How can you expect your marriage to flourish when your counsel is from those not yet married? How can you expect your finances to flourish yet you spend the day strolling with friends that don’t “invest” wisdom into you. Most often teen pregnancies start with peer pressure. Alcohol and substance abuse start with the “crews” we hang out with. Gossip starts from cliques of people who have too much time on their hands and will rob you of yours. What do you choose to partake in? Bad company corrupts good character. Do not be misled: “Bad Company corrupts good character.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 (NIV).

Don’t expect to grow if you are the “best” in your circle. Move out of the zone of those that pamper your ego, and go into unchartered territories, out of the comfort zone, into places where you will meet those that will challenge you. To be a millionaire, play with millionaires, to excel in the arts, socialize with those that won awards. Who is in your circle? Cut off those that limit your growth. You will not fly if your hemline is pegged to the ground.

God bless you and I hope you are inspired.
